Day(s?) of Giving

April 24-25 is/are designated as Gannon’s Day of Giving. In recognition of their day(s) of giving, please show them they should give back our library by donating to our legal fund instead. Let’s make this a record 2-day period of supporting our library!

Lack of Financial Responsibility

One of the counts against the county executive in our lawsuit is breach of fiduciary duty–meaning he is showing a lack of financial responsibility to Erie County taxpayers. In addition to the Blasco Library lease, his budget disasters, and the other lawsuits against him, we can add another example to the list.

Davis awards $2.3 million to municipalities despite ongoing lawsuit, no council approval

Davis awards $2.3 million for municipal infrastructure projects

It’s as if he thinks he’s Oprah giving away cars to members of the studio audience. However, unlike Oprah, it’s taxpayer money, he needs county council approval, he has to abide by the Home Rule Charter, and this audience doesn’t want to be in the studio.

Who would have thought that the person presenting the most compelling argument for our breach of fiduciary duty count would be Brenton Davis himself?

“A lack of transparency results in distrust and a deep sense of insecurity.”

Momentum

As you probably remember, in honor of National Library Week, we had a donor that would match donations up to a total of $1000 this past week. Online donations totaled $1485 and checks are still being counted. This means that our matching donation campaign received $2485 + checks. The donor is very touched and grateful for your support. We’ll let you know the final total soon. In addition, we received an extremely generous donation outside of the matching donation campaign. Let’s keep this momentum going! We have the upcoming showing of “Save Blasco!” and our bingo night (details to follow in another blog post this week).

Thank you so much! We can do this. We can keep our library public!

“Start moving, a step at a time, step after step. The positive momentum will take you from there.”

Lack of Self-awareness

One of Brenton Davis’s talking points in his re-election campaign is that public funds shouldn’t go to non-profits. I’m not going to get into the weeds with the politics here, but I just wanted to point out his shocking lack of self-awareness. He apparently has a problem with public funds going to non-profits, but no problem with $1.5M in ARPA funds (which are public and meant to help those most affected by the pandemic) or public assets (Blasco Library) going to a non-profit (Gannon). Check out the Taxpayer Facts.

Anyone see a problem with his reasoning or lack thereof?

“A library outranks any other one thing a community can do to benefit its people. It is a never failing spring in the desert.”

~Andrew Carnegie

Just Sit Right Back and You’ll Hear a Tale…

…of how Gannon’s Project NetPTWNE needs access to the water–according the Gannon and the county executive. However, Gannon’s ship isn’t even in the water. It’s dry docked and has been for some time.

No offense to Gilligan and the Skipper, but the Environaut is looking like the S.S. Minnow. And at least one faculty member would rather work on campus than in the Blasco Library–the project being called the Great Lakes Education and Research Center back in August 2024, since re-named (more on that in a future post). The argument that Gannon needs a waterfront location for Project NepTWNE is a total shipwreck.

Just a reminder that we have matching funds (up to $1000 total) this week to raise money for our legal fund.

“Well, good luck, Little Buddy.”

Brenton Doing Brenton Things

I had another post all set for today, but once again, Brenton was doing Brenton things, so I will save it for another day.  An audit by the county controller revealed that the county executive made changes to the 2025 budget without the approval of county council.  Audit reveals Davis administration made unapproved changes to budget

This is the same guy that gave away 3200 square feet of our library for less than market value. Send a message that his lack of fiscal responsibility is unacceptable by making a contribution to our legal fund for National Library Week.

“My grandma always said that God made libraries so that people didn’t have any excuse to be stupid.”

National Library Week April 6-12, 2025

In honor of National Library Week, we have an anonymous donor who will match donations given during this week up to a total of $1000. That means if we raise $1000 in donations this week, it becomes $2000.

Libraries around the country are currently under attack, and library funding has been cut. Please give generously to our legal fund to protect our Blasco Library.
